Advent is a season of preparation for our celebration of Christmas and marks the beginning of a new Christian year. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. This season offers families an opportunity to reflect together on their faith and to grow together as disciples of Jesus Christ.
This advent devotional has been created specifically for families. Confident that parents are the primary educators of their children and know best their needs and abilities, this devotional offers a variety of activities to choose from for each week of Advent and the week of Christmas. The weekly activities are grouped in five categories: music, table or car conversations, readings, family activities, and prayer. There is a wrap-up activity at the end of each week to help families reflect on all they have done during the week and to consider ways God is seeking to transform them into more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
The theme for this devotional and our church's worship and faith formation this Advent season is "Names for the Messiah." The focus is on the four names or characteristics found in Isaiah 9:6 to describe the long-awaited Messiah - the One whose birth we prepare to celebrate again this Christmas.
May this Advent season be for you and your family a time of reflection, sharing, growth and joy as we prepare for the coming of Emmanuel,
God with us.
